SHILLONG: The body of Major David Manlun , who was killed during an encounter with militants in Mon district of Nagaland on Tuesday night, was brought to his home town, Shillong, on Wednesday.Major Manlun of the 164 Brigade of the Territorial Army and three militants belonging to NSCN(K) and Ulfa(I) were killed during an encounter at remote Lappa, close to the Myanmar border.An alumnus of St Anthony's School and College, Shillong, David used to command an NCC unit and grew up in the Happy Valley-Madanrting area of the city.The family members of Manlun said they are proud of the supreme sacrifice which he made for the country. His sibling Siampu Manlun said his 34-year-old brother had always wanted to join the armed forces and serve the country since their father is also a retired armyman.Siampu said his brother went to Delhi for his MBA and later cleared the combined Defence Service examination. He added that Major David completed his training from the Officers' Training Academy in Chennai.David was commissioned in the year 2010 and his first unit was the Naga Regiment. His funeral will be held at the Assam Regimental Centre cemetery here on Wednesday. On the other hand, people were seen lined up on the streets as the Army carried the cortege of the martyr to his home in the city.
