Congress leaders back Virbhadra in show of strength in Kangra rally

DHARAMSHALA: Ahead of Parliamentary elections, the Virbhadra camp held a show of strength in Kangra district on Saturday. Virbhadra Singh said that during the last assembly elections he decided to contest from Arki constituency from where the Congress had been losing for the past three terms. The Congress should declare its party candidates so that they get time to prepare for elections”, he said, replying to a question on factionalism in the party.Many party leaders, including Ashish Butail and Sudhir Sharma urged the veteran Congress leader to name a candidate for Parliamentary elections in Kangra and said they were ready to support him. When questioned about his stand on the state party chief, he said Sukhu is not in a position to harm him personally.“It is obvious that most of the party is united and will win all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal in the next parliamentary elections. In the face of the rivalry between Singh and state party chief Sukhwinder Sukhu, supporters of the former CM communicated that the party could not succeed in the state without Virbhadra.The meeting was attended by almost all Congress leaders from lower areas of Himachal besides former minister G S Bali, Rajya Sabha member Viplove Thakur, AICC secretary Asha Kumari and former minister and Congress MLA from Fatehpur, Sujan Singh Pathania Addressing the gathering, Singh opposed Sukhu’s decision to divide the politically significant Kangra district by forming organizational district units.
