Himachal Pradesh BJP loses Zila Parishad elections to Congress at Kangra

DHARAMSHALA: Kangra district , known as the political capital of the Himachal Pradesh , plays a prominent role during every elections. A close aide of the industries minister lost the seat to a Congress candidate here.Elections were held today for the vice president post of the Zila parishad. But ahead of parliamentary elections, the ruling BJP faced a defeat at the Zila Parishad elections on Monday despite the fact that there were four sitting ministers in cabinet from Kangra. The board of directors was dissolved after saffron party had come to power in the state during April. Three ministers of the party, Kishan Kapoor, Vipin Parmar and Bikram Thakur were present in the circuit house located at few distance away from election venue.

But despite all efforts, the BJP lost the seat here.Congress leader Vishal Chambiyal who belongs to Indora constituency of this district was vying for this post against Sher Singh who belongs to the constituency of industries minister and is a native of his ward from Jaswan - Paragpur.Chambiyal got 35 votes while Sher Singh only 20; he lost seat to the Congress candidate by 15 votes out of a total 55 votes in the body. This comes as a big embarrassment for the BJP in power.Meanwhile, the tussle was already on among the Congress and BJP for KCC bank headquartered here and the party has failed to elect its candidate for the chairman’s post of the bank. The board of directors was dissolved after saffron party had come to power in the state during April. But no chairman could be appointed from last more than 10 months and bank was running headless since then.Congress leader Jagdish Sapehia who was acting as the chairman till April this year has moved to the court alleging unethical practices by the government to remove him from the post.
