SHIMLA: Following the kidnapping and murder of a 12-year-old Class VI student from Shamti area of Solan district on Tuesday, agitated people blocked traffic at Old Deputy Commissioner Chowk and raised slogans against the police on Wednesday.As the huge traffic jam was witnessed due to the protest, police detained around 40 protesters, who were demanding to speak to Solan SP Madhusudan Sharma. The additional SP was present on the spot and he tried to pacify the protesters but they did not listen to him.The deceased was heading to school on Tuesday when the accused, who is a resident of Nepal and works at a mobile shop in Shimla, took him to a forested area and killed him. After committing the crime, the accused had reportedly called father of the deceased and demanded ransom from him. However, police managed to arrest him on the basis of his call details.Deceased Nagesh Kumar was a student of Government High School, Kothon. On Tuesday morning he was heading towards school on foot when on the way accused Vipin Bahadur befriended him and lured him to a forested area. Vipin then took mobile number of his father and killed him before calling Nagesh's father demanding ransom money.According to police sources, the accused had called the Nagesh's father, who works at a hardware shop at around 11 am on Tuesday, and demanded Rs 50,000 as ransom money. The boy's father immediately informed the police about the ransom call. Around 2 pm accused called again and demanded Rs 40 lakh ransom, but his call location was traced and he was arrested from Children Park.During interrogation, Vipin confessed to his crime and said that he had murdered the boy and buried his body in the forest. Later on his identification of the spot, the police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Following his arrest, a case of kidnapping and murder has been registered against him.The incident has created panic in the area and people are worried about the safety of their school going children.
