CHANDIGARH: The Vistadome coach, which is plying on the Kalka-Shimla heritage section, has developed a crack in its roof glass top after an electrical bolt fell on it, while the train was stationed at the Shimla yard for maintenance on Friday.A special team was immediately sent to Shimla to find out whether the coach was fit to ply on the section.Dinesh Kumar, divisional railway manager (DRM), Ambala division , said the incident took place on Friday afternoon. In the preliminary inquiry, he was informed by the staff that the glass already had a minor crack, which turned into a major one this afternoon after an electric bolt fell on it.He said a decision would be taken after the inspection whether the coach would continue to run with the cracked glass top. He said even though it was a special glass and designed with specifications given by the railways, but considering the safety aspect, the team would take a final call on the coach plying on this route.“The division has already ordered glasses for the coach and it will be replaced within the next one week by the department concerned. The division is also working on the issues being faced by the passengers,” he said.Sources said an emergency meeting was called by the DRM after the incident took place. It was pointed out that the material used in the glass was not as per the orders placed by the railways. The officials pointed out that substandard material was used in the coach due to which the glass roof top developed a crack.
