Shimla doctors observe Pen Down strike for two hours

While on strike, doctors were seen creating awareness about Swine Flu among people and also participated in blood donation.For last one week, resident doctors were working in the wards wearing black badges. He said that government is misleading resident doctors on the issue of bank guarantee as for last one year same has not been scrapped. SHIMLA: To oppose the decision of state government to charge Rs 5 lakh bank guarantee being sought by government for masters and specialized medical courses, resident doctors held two hours Pen Down strike at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital on Monday from 9 am to 11 am. Strike of doctors caused inconvenience to patients at OPD during the period. While interacting with media persons, Resident Doctors Association president Dr Ajay Jaryal said that on the issue of bank guarantee, he has met Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur right times but they have only received assurances from him.

He said that government is misleading resident doctors on the issue of bank guarantee as for last one year same has not been scrapped. He said that doctors cannot pay the bank guarantee as amount is too high and instead of on the pattern of other states, government should consider the filling up of bonds.Earlier the bank guarantee being submitted by the doctors for post graduate and specialized medical courses was Rs 10 lakh but same was reduced to Rs 5 lakh. Strike of doctors caused inconvenience to patients at OPD during the period.
