2 Punjab residents arrested with Rs 50 lakh in old currency

They found Rs 50,53,500 cash in old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes from a bag. Rs 40 lakh has been recovered in the denomination of Rs 1000 while remaining has been recovered in Rs 500 denomination, he said.Earlier, Shimla police had recovered fake currency notes from Punjab residents during checking at Shoghi barrier. SHIMLA: Two Punjab residents were arrested after over Rs 50 lakh cash in banned currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations were recovered from their vehicle during a checking at Shoghi barrier near Shimla on Sunday.Shimla police had set up a naka at Shoghi barrier where a vehicle coming from Solan side was stopped for checking. They questioned Bharat Bhushan and Swaran Singh , who were inside the vehicle about the source of the currency notes and the place they were heading to. Failing to get satisfactory answers, police arrested the duo and seized their vehicle.A senior police officer said, only after detailed interrogation, source of this money and also the place it was to be delivered would be known.
