SHIMLA: Tight security arrangements have been made for the safety of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines brought to the designated strong rooms from 7,252 polling stations across Himachal Pradesh post polling on November 9.To ensure the safety of EVMs and VVPATs from all 68 assembly constituencies of the state, 100 strong rooms have been set up at 48 locations with CCTV surveillance round the clock. For over five weeks, these EVMs and VVPATs will remain under round-the-clock vigil.Himachal Pradesh chief electoral officer Pushpendra Rajput said elaborate security arrangements have been made for the safe custody of the EVM and VVPAT machines throughout the state. He said a three-tier security system has been enforced for safety of these machines.As many as 23 companies of the central para-military forces have been deployed for continuous security of these machines. For the first time, VVPATs were used with the EVMs in all the 68 assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh to enhance the transparency and credibility of the election.
