SHIMLA: Power generation at Himachal Pradesh's hydro-projects has been severly affected due to fresh spell of snowfall in the higher reaches of the state. The slump in the electricity generation is being blamed on less discharge of water in the rivers. With reduced power generation, maintaining balance between the demand and supply has become a challenge for the electricity department.Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited, managing director, P C Negi held a meeting with the officials of State Load Dispatch Centre on Saturday to review the situation.Sources said that due to frozen glaciers, very less water is being discharged into the rivers which is directly affecting the power generation in the hydro-power projects. With more snowfall expected in the coming days, the power generation is expected to dip further. An electricity board official said currently, hydro-power projects are generating only 30% of their total capacity.
