SRINAGAR: A dismal 4.2 percent votes were polled in the fourth and final phase of municipal elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.Polling was held amid a shutdown ordered by separatists in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Pulwama districts of the Kashmir valley. Srinagar recorded only 4 percent voter turnout while as Ganderbal recorded 11.3 percent, officials said. The total voter turnout reported at 4 pm was 4.2 percent.According to the figures released by the chief election officer, the total votes polled during the fourth phase were 9656, of which 5425 were males and 4231 were females.Dozens of youth in Soura locality in outer Srinagar pelted stones on security forces to disrupt the polling. The police and CRPF men chased away the mob by using tear gas shells and resorting to lathi charge. All the shops and business establishments remained closed in the poll bound areas. Traffic was also thin on the roads throughout the day.
