Jammu and Kashmir scraps order on religious books in all schools

"Circular issued by the education department regarding introduction of some religious books stands withdrawn ab initio under the orders of the chief secretary (BVR Subramaniyam)," an official spokesman said. Talking to the TOI, Vyas said, it was simply a recommendation and "had never asked to issue a circular for the purchase of the holy scriptures." Taking note of the backlash, the government withdrew the circular.
