Man dies as Kashmir shivers at minus 7.7°C

SRINAGAR: A 65-year-old man died in Anantnag district on Friday as the Kashmir Valley reeled under severe cold at -7.7°C on Thursday night. Cops said the man was mentally challenged and had been seen wandering in the area for the last three days. The man apparently died of extreme cold,” said a police officer.The meteorological department said south Kashmir’s Anantnag recorded a low of -6.7°C on Wednesday night while Kokernag was at -5.5°C. Pahalgam was the Valley’s coldest place at -9.5°C while Gulmarg, Kashmir’s skiing haven, recorded a minimum temperature of -9.3°C. Inclement weather has frozen water supply lines and water bodies including the Dal Lake Authorities recovered the body from an orchard in Mattan region in the afternoon.
