Passengers stop train over police inaction on women bootleggers in Surat

The passengers were protesting the police inaction over the complaint about the presence of two women bootleggers in the train. SURAT: In a major embarrassment for the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Gujarat Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF), a group of passengers detained Bandra-Bhuj-Kutchh Express at Surat railway station on Thursday night. Though, we have registered a case of inaction against the RPF staff and ticket checker of the train,” said AK Shukla , senior division security commissioner, RPF, Mumbai division. Few videos of the passengers' protest went viral on social media. Passengers alleged these women are ferrying about 10 bottles of liquor through the train.Trains are widely used by a number of criminals to transport liquor and ganja into dry Gujarat.The passengers were agitated since none of the security agencies took actions against the women who were ferrying liquor despite the issue being reported at Valsad railway station.

Passengers pulled chain of the train and did not allow it to move for few minutes at Surat railway station.Many passengers missed the train as they had to stay back at Surat railway station to push police to register a case.Meanwhile, RPF was quick to take actions against their staffers who did not take immediate actions.“Since only male members were part of the RPF team they could not check the women who have tied the bottles on their body under their clothes. Though, we have registered a case of inaction against the RPF staff and ticket checker of the train,” said AK Shukla , senior division security commissioner, RPF, Mumbai division.
