KM Munshi’s daughter dies at 96

She was awarded Rabindranath Memorial Award by the West Bengal government for her authentic biography of Sister Nivedita. She was principal of Nivedita School from 1968 to 1970 and started a branch of Sri Sarada Math in New Delhi in 1970. in Sanskrit, she joined Sister Nivedita Girls’ School in 1952 and later Sri Sarada Math, a monastic order for women, set up in 1954. Bharuch: Sannyasini Atmaprana, daughter of freedom fighter Kanhaiyalal Maneklal Munshi, the founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, died in New Delhi on Monday last. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and died on May 14.Kalpalata Munshi was the apple of her father’s eyes who would introduce her to the guests as ‘my ascetic daughter’.

Bharuch: Sannyasini Atmaprana, daughter of freedom fighter Kanhaiyalal Maneklal Munshi, the founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, died in New Delhi on Monday last. She was 96. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and died on May 14.Kalpalata Munshi was the apple of her father’s eyes who would introduce her to the guests as ‘my ascetic daughter’. She had participated in the freedom movement and was imprisoned by the British government.After completing her PhD. in Sanskrit, she joined Sister Nivedita Girls’ School in 1952 and later Sri Sarada Math, a monastic order for women, set up in 1954. Kalpalata became Sannyasini Atmaprana on joining the monastery. Large crowds would throng to listen her because she was an articulate orator on Vedanta. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan had also attended her discourses. She was principal of Nivedita School from 1968 to 1970 and started a branch of Sri Sarada Math in New Delhi in 1970. She was awarded Rabindranath Memorial Award by the West Bengal government for her authentic biography of Sister Nivedita.
