SURAT: Five people got a new lease of life after organs of a 32-year-old woman, who had committed suicide , were harvested and transplanted to them here on Friday. This was fourth cadaver organ donation in the past five days in the city, benefiting 18 people. Nidhi Jitesh Mendpara, a resident of Singanpore Causeway Road in Surat, ended her life by hanging self in her house on June 6. Nidhi had slapped her young son Shloka for which her husband scolded her. Jitesh, who is into diamond business, then went out of the house. Feeling hurt, Nidhi called him up on his mobile phone and said she was ending her life. She went to her bedroom and hung herself from the ceiling fan.When Jitesh reached home, he found his wife hanging. He took her to Kiran Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Volunteers of Donate Life approached the family and convinced them to donate Nidhi’s organs.Doctors of the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre, Ahmedabad, harvested the woman’s organs. Nidhi’s eyes were accepted by Lokdrashti Chakshudan Kendra. One kidney was transplanted to the body of Prabhakar Jain, a resident of Udaipur in Rajasthan, and another into Pradip Sarang, a resident of Nagaur in Rajasthan. The liver was transplanted to the body of Jitendrasinh Gohil, a resident of Bhavnagar.
