Bharuch heritage sites to be restored

Bharuch/Surat: Several heritage monuments of Bharuch will be soon be restored in a phased manner.Considered to be one of the oldest cities, Bharuch has a unique mixture of Persian, Greek, Roman, British, Mughal and Maratha era architecture. We also have a plan to train local guides who can explain to tourists the history of the heritage sites and monuments.” Currently, many heritage sites are in a bad condition. Council is planning to start heritage tour on regular basis once infrastructure develops at these sites. So we are going to work in a phased manner to ensure that all these places become a tourist attraction.

Bharuch/Surat: Several heritage monuments of Bharuch will be soon be restored in a phased manner.Considered to be one of the oldest cities, Bharuch has a unique mixture of Persian, Greek, Roman, British, Mughal and Maratha era architecture. Bharuch was once important city with land and sea trade routes. It was a key port that flourished between 3rd century and 19th century.Bharuch district collector Ravi Arora along with members of Bharuch Citizen Council, president and chief officer of Bharuch municipality conducted a tour of the heritage sites on Sunday and decided to restore the dilapidated sites.They visited Bhrugu Rushi temple; the dharmashala of Nathu Dhobal, know for its wooden carving of Maratha rule during the 17th century; 500-year-old Jamma Masjid in old town; Dashashwamedh Ghat, where cremations are done on banks of river Narmada; 1,000-year-old Fort wall; Begam Wadi and Sardar Manzil museum of Haidar Saheb.On Monday, a day after the collector’s visit, cleaning of all major sites was initiated. The next day collector called a meeting of local architects and asked them to prepare a plan as to what best can be done to bring these ancient places to life again.“We need to preserve these historical sites and monuments. So we are going to work in a phased manner to ensure that all these places become a tourist attraction. Several global historians come to Bharuch as it was one of the important ports,” Arora said.Bharuch Citizen Council’s president Jivraj Patel said, “This restoration work was badly needed. Currently, many heritage sites are in a bad condition. Council is planning to start heritage tour on regular basis once infrastructure develops at these sites. We also have a plan to train local guides who can explain to tourists the history of the heritage sites and monuments.”
