Man thrashed for helping girl to elope

The accused took him to Majuragate where they thrashed him with a cricket bat and hit a metal object on his head. Later, Patel and his three associates were arrested for attacking Shaikh.The accused arrived in a group at the footwear shop in Navsari Bazaar in the evening where the victim is employed. Patel started inquiring about his sister Pooja and Zuber Nishar, friend of Shaikh.

Surat: Ten people were booked at Salabatpura police station for rioting and thrashing a 27-year-old resident of Rander on Wednesday.Police booked Ankit Patel, a resident of Sagrampura, and other unidentified persons on a complaint by Salman Mustaq Shaikh, an employee of a footwear shop. The accused were booked for rioting, unlawful assembly, kidnapping and voluntarily causing hurt under Indian Penal Code. Later, Patel and his three associates were arrested for attacking Shaikh.The accused arrived in a group at the footwear shop in Navsari Bazaar in the evening where the victim is employed. Patel started inquiring about his sister Pooja and Zuber Nishar, friend of Shaikh. The members of the group thrashed Shaikh in the shop and then kidnapped him on a motorcycle. The accused took him to Majuragate where they thrashed him with a cricket bat and hit a metal object on his head. Shaikh suffered injuries all over his body. They abused Shaikh and threatened to kill him if he did not inform them about the location of Patel’s sister and Zuber, who too was an employee of the footwear shop. The girl came in touch with Zuber when she went to buy a pair of shoes from the shop where Zuber was employed, police sources said.Police investigation revealed that Pooja had recently eloped with Zuber, a resident of Rander. They got their marriage registered at the marriage registrar office and Shaikh was one of the witnesses to sign on the registration papers.Pooja’s family had lodged a missing person’s report at Athwa police station. They attacked Shaikh on learning about his role in Pooja’s elopement, police added.
