3.5km canal road with 100-ft greenbelt in works

Surat: A 3.5km road from Anuvrat Dwar Canal Road to VIP Road Jamnaba Park is being developed at a cost of Rs 51 crore to provide people a getaway on weekends. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) plans to design 100-feet greenbelt in central area having concrete road with footpaths. The parking facility will be set up on the road at entry points of greenbelt from all sides. This road will be fully operational by Diwali 2019, but a stretch will be ready by December 2018.“The basic idea is to provide road to public which is environmental sustainable. Once the road is motorable, development of middle area of greenbelt over the canal will begin.The greenbelt will have facilities like walkway, jogging track, garden, kiosks, park-cum-rest area, play area for kids, toilet blocks, small footbridges — at least at four places to cross the canal — senior citizen space etc will be set up.

A full stretch of 100-feet of greenbelt will go a long way in providing large number of facilities to people for their small errands,” executive engineer, SMC, Akshay Pandya said.Development work for the 10.5-metre-wide concrete road and 2.5-metre-wide footpath at Goenka School side is already underway. Once the road is motorable, development of middle area of greenbelt over the canal will begin.The greenbelt will have facilities like walkway, jogging track, garden, kiosks, park-cum-rest area, play area for kids, toilet blocks, small footbridges — at least at four places to cross the canal — senior citizen space etc will be set up. The parking facility will be set up on the road at entry points of greenbelt from all sides. “We are planning to set up such roads on all sides of the city so that public can get a recreational spot in their own area and do not have to go far,” a civic body official said.
