Surat: Praful Doshi, gynaecologist and infertility expert, who was on the run after a 28-year-old woman patient of his had lodged a rape complaint against him last week, was arrested by police here on Saturday night.Doshi was booked for rape at Athwa police station on September 5 after the woman approached the cops with her complaint. The accused had allegedly raped the woman in his consulting room at Me and Mummy Hospital in Nanpura in the afternoon of September 4.“The accused surrendered to police after trying to avoid arrest for a few days. We are investigating who had given him shelter when he was on the run,” said a police officer at Athwa police station.“He will be produced in court at night. We will seek his custody for five or more days. We have got the medical examination of the rape accused done,” the police officer said.Doshi’s medical examination was carried out at New Civil Hospital (NCH) where samples of his hair, saliva, nails, sperm and blood were collected. His potency test turned out to be positive, sources informed. However, the police refused to give details of the medical examination of the rape accused, saying some tests were still pending.“We have collected some samples of the rape accused for medical examination. We are yet to get reports about them. The accused needs to undergo some more tests,” another police officer said.Meanwhile, Doshi refuted the allegation of rape levelled against him during initial questioning by the police.
