Surat: A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly strangling her liquor addict husband to death at their residence in Kapodra. This is second such incident to be reported in the city in as many days.Daya Dudhatra, a resident of Sahyog Society, was arrested for murder of her husband Haresh, a diamond polisher, who has been jobless since last four months.On Monday morning, Daya informed her relatives that her husband Haresh had hanged himself to death at their residence. The police initially investigated the case as that of a suicide. But the postmortem report revealed that Haresh was murdered as there were strangulation marks on his neck.According to police, Haresh had been unemployed for last four months and had become a liquor addict. His wife Daya was doing jobwork of textile products at home to support the family. The couple used to frequently quarrel over Haresh’s liquor addiction.On Sunday night at around 8.30pm Haresh started thrashing Daya with belt. Their quarrel continued till 12.30 am. Sources said that during questioning Daya told police that her husband had threatened to kill her and their daughter while thrashing her. Fearing that Haresh would kill her in fit of anger, Daya strangled him with a rope, added sources.The couple has a nine-year-old daughter who was sent to sleep at a neighbour’s house after the husband wife began fighting. On Monday morning Daya called her relative and told them that Haresh had hanged himself to death.A similar case was reported Amba Talawdi locality on Wednesday. Shilpa Pansuriya (35), a resident of Sonal Park society was arrested for strangling her husband Ashok (38) to death. Ashok, too, was a jobless diamond polisher, a liquor addict and used to thrash his wife often. In both the cases, the wives killed their husbands after fight at night. Both the accused women initially reported the death as suicide, which turned out to be murder during police investigation.
