15 booked for damaging idol in Mumbai Vadat pandal

Police identified Imran alias Salman, Mohommad Yasin Shethwala, Aslam Shethwala, Farooq Rajbra and Yusuf Jeeva Shethwala for their involvement in the incident. Police brought two representatives belonging to minority community at the pandal and they apologized with folded hands to the residents about the incident. The group escaped when local residents started gathering at the pandal, sources said.Meanwhile, police were alerted and they immediately arrived at the spot. Police initially registered an offence and planned to make preventive arrest of the accused but the residents wanted strict action against them. Other accused are yet to be identified and no arrest in the case has been made so far.

Surat: People belonging to two communities entered into a heated argument and pushed each other at a Lord Ganesha pandal near Mumbai Vad area of the city at around 12.30am on Saturday.At least 15 people, residents of Momnawad, who were returning after taking part in a tazia procession created ruckus at the pandal that resulted in the breaking of left hand of mangal murti (small idol). The group escaped when local residents started gathering at the pandal, sources said.Meanwhile, police were alerted and they immediately arrived at the spot. Police initially registered an offence and planned to make preventive arrest of the accused but the residents wanted strict action against them. Police brought two representatives belonging to minority community at the pandal and they apologized with folded hands to the residents about the incident. The residents then reached police station and demanded strict action against the members of minority community who had desecrated the pandal and another offence was registered at 2pm.Police booked a group of around 15 people for allegedly damaging an idol of Lord Ganesha at the pandal on a complaint by Aakash Patel (27). Police identified Imran alias Salman, Mohommad Yasin Shethwala, Aslam Shethwala, Farooq Rajbra and Yusuf Jeeva Shethwala for their involvement in the incident. Other accused are yet to be identified and no arrest in the case has been made so far.
