Brain-dead woman’s heart saves young mother

A neurosurgeon at NCH declared Soni brain-dead on Saturday.NCH authorities contacted Donate Life for convincing deceased’s family members to go for cadaver donation of Soni’s vital organs, including her heart. Three heart recipients were from Ahmedabad and one each belonged to Chennai, Indore and New Delhi. Shraddha’s husband Kamlesh Kanojiya owns a mobile repairing shop in Chembur.Donate Life authorities said Soni’s was 20th heart to be donated from Surat in the last 34 months. Her heart’s pumping capacity had reduced to almost 15 per cent and later it went down to 10 per cent.

SURAT: A 20-year-old brain-dead woman from the city has given a new lease of life to a Mumbai-based woman suffering from heart ailment on Saturday, which happened to be World Heart Day.Soni Kapil Pagare, a resident of Bhimnagar Awas in Udhana, was married six months ago to a mason from Dhuliya in Maharashtra. On Raksha Bandhan, Soni had come to visit her parents and did not go back to her husband’s house.She had consumed some poisonous substance due to unknown reasons at her parents’ house on September 24. She was rushed to New Civil Hospital (NCH) for treatment. A neurosurgeon at NCH declared Soni brain-dead on Saturday.NCH authorities contacted Donate Life for convincing deceased’s family members to go for cadaver donation of Soni’s vital organs, including her heart. Donate Life volunteers met Soni’s family members and were able to convince them about cadaver donation and subsequently they contacted Institute of Kidney Diseases Research Centre (IKDRC) in Ahmedabad.The heart of Soni was harvested and transported from NCH to Mumbai’s Fortis Hospital in Mulund covering 269 kilometre distance in just 120 minutes.
