Brother-in-law prime suspect in woman’s murder

Surat: Police detained a 40-year-old man from an area under the limits of Adajan police station on Monday for allegedly murdering his elder brother’s wife. The accused had stabbed the 42-year-old woman on her face with a sharp-edged weapon at their residence and is yet to confess to the crime.Vasant alias Harish Vasava had allegedly murdered his sister-in-law Aasha at their residence on fifth floor of Suman Chhaya Awas near Pal RTO. The accused told police that he didn’t kill Aasha and had no idea who murdered her.Vasava was spotted by Aasha’s son Raj, 19, on ground floor of the building on Sunday night. Raj lodged a police complaint against his uncle. Raj, an employee at an automobile showroom, returned home at around 8.30pm on Sunday and was waiting for elevator on ground floor of the building, when he saw Vasava going down the stairs.Vasava did not talk to Raj and left the building quickly. Later Raj found his mother dead in the house. “We recovered some blood-stained clothes of Vasava and his movements before and after the estimated time of murder were captured on CCTV cameras installed at the building. However, he is yet to confess to the crime,” said a police officer at Adajan police station.Police have not been able to find out the motive of the murder because the accused is yet to confess.
