Property broker nabbed with scrapped notes of Rs 4 crore

Surat: Police detained a 39-year-old man on Jahangirpura Hazira Road falling under the limits of Rander police station for carrying scrapped currency notes having face value of Rs3.85 crore on Sunday. Three persons were going in a car with the scrapped notes when it was stopped by police. However, two men escaped from the location and one got nabbed.The person detained was identified as Vishal Barad, a resident of Satadhar Chokdi in Amroli. Barad could not give proper explanation to police from where he got the currency notes.Barad, a property broker, told police that the two persons who escaped were Sunny Dangar and Bhavesh Bharwad. He said they had taken currency notes from some people in Vadodara and were in search of options to exchange them with new notes.“Police cannot take any action in seizure of scrapped notes. The case details have been referred to income tax department for further action,” said a police officer at Rander police station.Police have also seized the car of Barad, which is worth Rs10 lakh along with his two mobile phones worth Rs60,000. The scrapped currency include 67,200 notes of Rs500 denomination and 4,900 notes of Rs1,000 denomination.
