Surat: Even as number of injuries to birds during Uttarayan celebrations were less compared to last year, the number of people injured in various kite flying related accidents shot up by nearly 18%.All 25 vehicles of 108 emergency services worked round-the-clock following continuous calls regarding injuries to citizens.“ We dealt with total of 182 calls and took people for treatment to different hospitals,” said 108 EMRI sources. There was no loss of life though.Out of 182 calls received, 104 were injuries due to road accidents, 42 due to falling from height while trying to catch a loose kite or a dangling manja. There were 21 cases of assault due to fights resulting over snatching kites and 15 cases where people’s throats were cut due to manja.Most injuries due to kite strings were reported from Varachha, Parvat Patiya and Bhestan whereas assault cases were reported from Dindoli, Limbayat and Godadara.“There were number of cases of falling from height, mainly terraces and rooftops in Walled City areas of Bhagal and outskirt areas of Dindoli, Limbayat. Road accidents cases mainly occurred in areas like Udhna -Magdalla Road, Sachin, Udhna, Varachha, Adajan and Katargam.
