3,148 CCTV cameras to keep eye on SMC assets

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will set up 3 ,148 CCTV cameras in the city for 24X7 surveillance of its different facilities. With this CCTV installations, it will be possible for SMC to keep an eye on BRTS, schools, water distribution facilities and its other properties.Installations of the CCTV camera’s will be done in three phases over nine month period. Once installed, SMC will not require to use the CCTV network of Surat police which it is been currently using. The work is being undertaken under Suman Eye project which is expected to cost SMC Rs 14 crore. Tender Scrutiny Committee (TSC) of SMC approved the project on Wednesday.CY Bhatt, deputy commissioner SMC said, “The tender for the project has been floated and we expect to complete the work in 9-10 months at the most.”“The cameras will be set up at all Nagar Prathmik Shiksha Samiti (NPSS) schools, Suman high schools and other educational facilities run by SMC.

There will be zone wise control room set up from where activities could be monitored.”Apart from these places, the CCTV cameras will be installed at all BRTS bus stops, water treatment and supply facilities in the city, public places like some gardens and lakes.All these CCTV camers will be linked to central control and command centre which is under development.
