Makeover of Vesu Canal Rd by Novend

Surat: The makeover of 3.5km long Vesu-Canal Road is expected to be completed by November 2019.The area is being developed under pedestrian safety policy at the cost of Rs 52 crore. People can come with their vehicles, park at the allotted space and walk in the linear park on green lawns and surroundings.” At present the area under Anuvrat Dwar to VIP Road on both sides of Vesu canal is under development and 60% of the work has been completed.An official from road development department of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said, “The 60 metre wide road on both sides of five metre canal will be developed for multi-purpose use. Under the pedestrian road safety policy norms, the roads will have 1.8 metre footpaths, safety barriers and up and down slopes to make walking easy.Pandya said, “The whole idea is to give people some fresh breathing space, away from urban din. There will be recreation facilities, walkways, shopping zone, kids play area and even linear park.”Akshay Pandya, executive engineer of roads development section said, “We plan to complete all the road building and other development work of landscaping, placing murals, footpath and safety hatches construction before monsoon.

The second half of work which is horticulture will be done during monsoon so that different types of plants can grow nicely.” The second stretch of 6km from VIP Road to New VIP Road will be taken up once the first is ready.According to officials, more than 5,000 different types of plants and shrubs will come up along the road.
