Murder convict attempts suicide in Lajpore jail

Surat: A 58-year-old murder convict attempted suicide in Lajpore Central Jail (LCJ) early on Wednesday. He was rescued by other jail inmates and was shifted to New Civil Hospital for treatment. After being convicted for a murder that he committed in 2000, Shaikh was sentenced to life imprisonment. Shaikh informed doctors at the hospital that he was tired of living in jail since past many years. Usman Noor Mohammad Shaikh took overdose of medicines he was prescribed for fever and later tried to hang self using a towel in his barrack.
