Four drown in creek water, 7-yr-old accompanying father still missing

While the father’s body was found on Monday, the son is still missing. The trio ventured into deep water despite them not being good swimmers. After a few minutes in water the trio started shouting for help and as their friends were not expert swimmers, they could not jump in to rescue them.

Thane: Four people drowned while a seven-year-old has been missing in the creek waters in two separate incidents reported in various parts of Thane on Sunday.In the first incident, a 29-year-old fisherman, Rajesh Bhoir and his son Harshad, staying in a nearby Koli settlement, were reported missing since Sunday afternoon after they did not return home till late evening. Bhoir decided to take Harshad along for fishing. It is suspected that the duo may have ventured deep in the creek behind Hiranandani Estate and drowned.The body of the father was found by rescuers on Monday afternoon while his son still remains untraced, said rescue operators.In the second incident, three of a group of eight youngsters from Wagle Estate, who had gone camping along the Bhatsa River in Ozarli village in Kalyan on Sunday went missing only to be found drowned the following morning. The deceased have been identified as Suraj Singh (27), Rajesh alias Chotu Sheru Singh Tamatta (32) and Roshan Singh (25), all residents of CP Tank area in Wagle Estate, Thane. Singh is the son of a local Shiv Sena functionary in Thane.“The youngsters had gone on a leisure trip to Khadivili on Sunday morning and had ventured in the river waters. The trio ventured into deep water despite them not being good swimmers. After a few minutes in water the trio started shouting for help and as their friends were not expert swimmers, they could not jump in to rescue them. Their alarms went unheard in the isolated stretch,” said a neighbor of the boys.“We received information at 5pm and we rushed to the spot to search for the bodies till late but to no luck. Their bodies were found the following day. After conducting post mortem at the Central hospital in Ulhasnagar, the bodies were handed over to the claimants, who had arrived from Thane on Monday,” said S Ahirrao, police sub inspector from Titwala.In the first incident, a fisherman and his son are believed to have ventured deep in the creek.
