THANE: With the incessant rains leaving the roads ridden with potholes, a citizen activist from Thane has taken upon himself to map the craters on the main roads and graphically red-flag them to prevent any fatalities. I am in the process of sending these details to the local administration and expect some change. The activist added that he will also send the maps to the local administration to ensure that they atleast publish the same for the benefit of pedestrians and motorists if they cannot repair the roads.“I expect the authorities to repair the roads in time. It was then that it occurred to me why not do a pothole mapping and inform motorists and authorities just as the Google location maps,’’ said Shah.He added that he will soon seek help from like-minded residents to prepare the pothole map in Thane and adjoining Navi Mumbai rather than wait for the authorities to fill up the bad roads. Mapping a road and pinpointing to the craters will be the best way to warn motorists,” said Shah.He said the concept of pothole mapping crossed his mind so as to shame the authorities responsible for maintainence of the roads and holding them directly responsible for any accidents.“While driving back home from Airoli last week, I started noting down the number and location of the craters and emailed the pencil sketched maps to friends and acquaintances.

THANE: With the incessant rains leaving the roads ridden with potholes, a citizen activist from Thane has taken upon himself to map the craters on the main roads and graphically red-flag them to prevent any fatalities. Satyajit Shah , a mechanical engineer, has driven through the entire stretch from Thane to Airoli to identify the potholed spots and mail or WhatsApp the defective spots on the roads for the safety of motorists.“Operation Pothole Mapping,” Shah said is primarily aimed to caution motorists of the dangers that lie ahead on the road so that they can steer clear from the defective portion.Potholes have often caught bikers and motorists unawares and before they could screech to a sudden halt they either loose balance and fall off their two-wheelers or tend to damage the four-wheeler.“There are several mishaps related to potholes during the rains as motorists often fail to spot them, especially during heavy rains or water-logging. I am in the process of sending these details to the local administration and expect some change. There are several motorists who could meet with mishaps if the roads are inundated during heavy rains and this initiative is to ensure future accidents do not take place,” he said.Satyajit Shah, a mechanical engineer, came upon this idea of mapping the potholes while driving on the stretch from Thane to AiroliHe came across several potholes which he started noting down along with the location following which he emailed them to his friendsHe then realised that the same can be done to inform motorists about the potholes on the stretch so that they are careful while driving
