The rainfall recorded by the IMD Colaba and Santa Cruz observatory from 8.30 am on Sunday till 8.30 am on Monday has been 170 mm and 122 mm respectively. This falls into the very heavy rain category.Owing to water-logging on streets, BEST buses have been diverted as well. The buses which were diverted are on two routes in Thane due to waterlogging at Vrindavan and Vandana Cinema areas and few more places in Mumbai too.In case of schools and colleges, while a holiday hasn't been declared but some schools are sending children to home if parents are coming to pick them up or have declared a holiday for the afternoon session. For instance, RN Podar School, Santacruz and DAV school, Nerul are shut for the afternoon, Balmohan Vidyamandir, Dadar and NL Dalmia School, Mira Road are shut for the day. At Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri teachers said the attendance was poor. Similarly, at TP Bhatia School, Kandivali only a few staffers came in.Owing to the heavy rains in the city, the school education department has extended the first round deadline for FYJC admissions up to 5 pm on Tuesday. The original deadline to confirm admissions of the first merit list was 5 pm today but several junior colleges reported low staff attendance and the rains would make it difficult for students to reach as well. The extension will not affect the rest of the schedule, said deputy school education secretary, Suvarna Kharat.
