THANE: The state-run civil hospital has been accorded the status of a super-speciality hospital and will soon be equipped with advance facilities and special wards.The Thane civil hospital will be the third such super-speciality hospital in the state as there are currently two such hospitals, one in Amravati and the other in Nasik.“We have been waiting for almost two years to get the approvals for the proposal of turning the hospital into a super-speciality one. Just two days back, the state health department gave a nod for the same. We had applied for it in 2016 and were following the same since then. The hospital will soon have various facilities and departments like oncology, neuro-surgery, cardiology and more,” said Dr. Ratna Raokhande, deputy director of health services (DDHS).The civil hospital caters to around 82 lakh citizens from Thane district . Patients also come all the way from the rural and tribal belt of Murbad, Shahpur, Bhiwandi and various other parts of the district “We currently have around 434 beds in various wards for patients. Once the hospital turns into a super-speciality one, there will be 140 more beds for super-speciality facilities. So in all there will be around 574 beds, which means we will able to cater to more people. Also, apart from providing the usual facilities, there will be experts who will treat patients having problems related to the brain, heart and kidney,” said Dr. Kailash Pawar, civil surgeon.
