THANE: A 68-year-old woman was found dead on the podium of a building in Rumah Bali Complex along Ghodbunder Road late on Monday, after she was allegedly assaulted by her son-in-law who then flung her out of his first-floor flat window. Kamaljit Kaur Samlog was found dead in a pool of blood around 11pm, hours after her 32-year-old son-in-law Ankush Bhatti allegedly hurled her from his window. Bhatti has allegedly confessed to the crime.Police said Bhatti was angered after the victim questioned him about the physical abuse of her daughter, who is hearing and speech impaired, over money.Bhatti, who was employed as a computer operator with a transport company owned by the Samlog family , married his employers' daughter more than a year ago and lived in the flat gifted to them by his in-laws.Reportedly a habitual drinker, on Monday, he walked home sozzled around 8.30pm and found his mother-in-law at home who sought an explaination from him about his abusive behaviour towards her daughter, said senior inspector Datta Dhole of Kasarwadavali police station.A heated argument ensued between the two and in a fit of rage Samlog is said to have slapped Bhatti who retaliated by hitting her repeatedly with a body spray kept on a table."She began to bleed but Bhatti continued to hit and shout at her. He then pushed her towards the window of their flat and flung her down," said inspector Nasir Kulkarni.Bhatti is said to have used sign language to threaten his wife into silence and made no attempt to rush downstairs to help his mother-in-law.The fall, though, went unnoticed for long as the newly constructed building is not fully occupied.Samlog's son, who resides in Hiranandani Estate, around 5km from the complex where the crime took place, got worried after his mother failed to return till late in the day and went to Rumah Bali around 11.30pm to look for her.Bhatti pretended to be shocked and said his mother-in-law had jumped out of the window. The victim's son rushed down and with the help of a few neighbours alerted the police and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.Kasarwadavli police started a probe and found blood stains in the flat and arrested Bhatti after questioning him."When our staff questioned him, he gave elusive answers and kept on changing his statements, which gave rise to suspicion. He later confessed to the crime," said Kulkarni. Bhatti was subsequently arrested under the Indian Penal Code section 302 for murder.
