Thane kids stone 3 stray pups, gouge their eyes out and leave them to die

THANE: A recent case of three puppies being killed allegedly by three minor boys in Thane has stirred angry reactions with animal activists demanding criminal prosecution against them. Shakuntala Majumdar of SPCA Thane said, “It is shocking for children to be so insensitive. We approached the children and enquired about the act after which we informed the police and requested them to counsel the kids,” said the animal activist. I was told by a few eyewitnesses that the boys, aged below seven, had gouged out the eyes of the puppies and used stones and knives to hurt them. When I enquired with locals, they told me about the gruesome act.

The incident recently took place near Hiranandani Estate area.The police said that about a week ago, three boys from a slum tenement targeted three puppies and stoned them to death. The puppies were beaten with sticks with their eyes gouged out and they were left to die.An animal activist from the locality who would regularly feed these puppies found them missing and later learnt that they had been killed. “I was worried as I could not find the puppies in the usual spot. When I enquired with locals, they told me about the gruesome act. I was told by a few eyewitnesses that the boys, aged below seven, had gouged out the eyes of the puppies and used stones and knives to hurt them. We approached the children and enquired about the act after which we informed the police and requested them to counsel the kids,” said the animal activist. Shakuntala Majumdar of SPCA Thane said, “It is shocking for children to be so insensitive. So, in order to make sure that they do not turn into criminals and commit any such gruesome crimes in the future, we have written to the child welfare committee regarding the incident. We have requested them to counsel these children as even their parents who are labourers are not around the whole day and they do not have anyone to sensitise them.”
