Panel may submit report on Maratha quota today

MUMBAI: The State Backward Class Commission is expected to submit its report on the issue of Maratha reservation to CM Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday, according to reports. "We are waiting for the report of the State Backward Class Commission, which will be submitted to the high court. I will communicate your demands to the chief minister," Deshmukh said. The report will then be forwarded to the Bombay high court which is hearing the quota matter.Fadnavis had on August 5 announced that his government would take a decision on providing reservation to the Marathas after the commission submits its report to the government and the outcome of a public interest litigation pending before the high court. Following this assurance, the Marathas called off their agitation on August 10.Meanwhile, nearly a fortnight after Maratha activists launched an indefinite hunger strike , state cooperation minister Subhash Deshmukh interacted with them on Tuesday but was non-committal on the demand for quota, Rs10 lakh ex-gratia payment to relatives of those who committed suicide during the quota stir and withdrawal of criminal cases against activists.
