Cops probing murder bid chance upon carjackers who shot cabbie, dumped body

THANE: The Thane police who were probing a case of attempt to murder in which six persons were arrested stumbled upon another case of murder in which the gang was involved.Officials of Narpoli police station in Thane were investigating a case of attempt to murder in which the six are accused. It is during this probe, that they learnt about a mystery murder of a driver who had been shot dead on the head near Shahpur and the body dumped in a jungle.The police have recovered four choppers, four pistols and 31 cartridge from them.The police said that accused-Dulal Mandal (29), Hiraman Gangawasi (40), Pramod Nuner (30), Rajesh Karotia (30), Prabhakar Singh (22) and the gang leader Jaysingh Thakur (34)-ran a syndicate in and around Thane, said additional commissioner of police Satya Narayan.On December 6,Mandal abducted his relative Arjun Sarkar (32) over a financial dispute involving Rs 10,000. He is now out of danger. The police registered an offence and Mandal was arrested, said the officer.The investigators interrogated Mandal which led to the arrest of the others.
