Mumbai: Greens see red as 2000 trees may be cut for road

THANE: More than 2,800 trees are at a risk of being chopped down by the civic authorities, in what is being labelled by green activists as a "secretive felling operation'', to make way for construction by MMRDA of a 11-km road connecting Katai naka with Airoli Environmentalist Rohit Joshi and activist Zoru Bhathena spotted a public notice, which offered skeletal information about the deforestation drive, in an English tabloid, seeking suggestions and objections from citizens.The first phase of the partly elevated road project was kickstarted last year.
