ULHASNAGAR: In the second incident in a week, a building slab collapsed during flooring work on the first floor shop of Ashirwad market building on Tuesday. Luckily, the market was closed. The four-storeyed building, with 42 shops, is on the list of 252 dangerous structures. Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation has sealed building, which was constructed in 1987, and was illegal. UMC chief public relations officer Yuvraj Badhane said the building was served notices twice to vacate. He added, "Some repairs were going on in the first floor shop when the slab crashed. Looking at the dangerous condition of the building, it has been sealed."In the Memsahab building collapse, Kalyan MP Shreekant Shinde gave Rs 1 lakh compensation to each family of the three deceased on Monday evening. Central police are yet to register a case in the crash in which six persons were also injured. UMC had decided to make it compulsory to get structural audits of more than 800 buildings done.Civic chief Achyut Hange had said they would make it compulsory to get audits of buildings constructed prior to 1995.He said over the last few years many buildings constructed between 1993-95 have collapsed.
