more-in Governor P. Sathasivam has called upon businesses to embrace disruptive technologies with open arms to forge ahead in a highly competitive world. Inaugurating the annual management convention of the Trivandrum Management Association (TMA) here on Thursday, the Governor said all such technologies were capable of igniting innovative minds to think of new business models. Businesses should use disruptive innovations to bring qualitative changes in the industries related to agriculture, dairy, food production, and food processing. The potential in these areas and in the marine wealth was under-utilised now. Use of innovation should extend to these vital areas too, and should not be limited to the services sector alone. Pointing out that many people in business were reluctant to adapt to the changing technological environment owing to lack of knowledge about the new trends or absence of professional skills to move on to new areas, the Governor said there was need for skill training of business leaders. He also regretted the failure of major business houses to invest in research and development. Focus on research “Sadly, even some of our large corporates spend only a negligible share of their wealth on research. I wish professional management associations could persuade organisations to devote more time and resources to research and development so that our companies also become equipped to compete at the higher levels of the global value chain,” he said. Mr. Sathasivam presented the TMA-Terumo Penpol CSR Award to Tata Consultancy Services at the function. Dinesh Thampi, vice-president (Kerala), TCS, and ILC Innovations Lab chief Robin Tomy received the award. TRIMA organising committee chairman Babu Thomas, M.I. Sahadulla, and P.C. Harikesh, among others, spoke.
