  • | Wednesday | 14th March, 2018

Mobile tuberculosis (TB) detection laboratories that can diagnose TB within two hours will be made available in all districts as part of the government’s efforts to augment TB detection, an official release from the Health Minister said. Rapid diagnosis of tuberculosis and detection of resistance to Rifampicin (RIF), a main TB drug, are the key to proper TB management. The labs will begin functioning on March 24, World TB Day. The mobile unit will be deployed mostly in rural areas, tribal and hilly belt and areas where there is a strong presence of migrant workers, to make TB detection easily accessible. The mobile lab, which is air-conditioned with generator and UPS back-up, will have the most modern CBNAAT facility (Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) for detecting TB as well the drug sensitivity profile.
