Thiruvananthapuram: Will reward cops who offer better service, says Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that besides being a centre of law and order maintenance, the police stations would also turn into service delivery centres. Instances of humanitarian acts done by certain cops have created a good impression among the public. Systems such as Pink Police and Pink Patrol must be expanded to more areas. The government aimed to achieve the feat of a state without any quotation gangs.Women safety and action against narcotic drugs were also important. Child friendly police stations in the state must be increased to 60.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that besides being a centre of law and order maintenance, the police stations would also turn into service delivery centres. He said this during a video-conference session with high-level officers in the state.He was addressing the district chiefs through the videoconferencing system at the police headquarters along with state police chief Loknath Behera and other top notch officials.In a bid to encourage the cops to offer better services, the CM also announced a trophy for the best police station in the state in the years to come.Already the police have a good reputation among the public. Instances of humanitarian acts done by certain cops have created a good impression among the public. More such exemplary acts must come out from the cops and such acts would be met with fitting rewards, he told the officers.The CM directed the cops that police personnel must be deployed in public places such that their strong presence is felt everywhere. Night patrolling must be intensified. Action against anti-socials and goons must also be intensified. The government aimed to achieve the feat of a state without any quotation gangs.Women safety and action against narcotic drugs were also important. Systems such as Pink Police and Pink Patrol must be expanded to more areas. Child friendly police stations in the state must be increased to 60. Safety and security of senior citizens were also of utmost importance, Pinarayi Vijayan said.The CM also lauded the cops for bringing down the accident rate in the year 2017 than the previous years and directed them to act strict upon violators of road rules.Home secretary Subrato Biswas and former state police chief Raman Srivastava, who is now advisor to CM, also attended the conference.
