Thiruvananthapuram region tops CBSE Class 12 pass percentage at 97.32

The Thiruvananthapuram region continued its excellent run in the Class 12 examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), recording the highest pass percentage of 97.32 in the country. The Class 12 examination scheduled from March 5 to April 12 courted controversy after the Economics question paper was leaked, and a re-test was held on April 25. The pass percentage this year is an increase from that last year when it was 95.64%. CBSE Regional Officer Tarun Kumar said girls outdid boys securing a pass percentage of 98.05. The CBSE declared the class 12 results on Saturday afternoon.

Significantly, the toppers in all three streams in the region this year are girls, with all securing 496 out of 500 marks. The achievers Kasturi Sha of Saraswati Vidyalaya, Vattiyurkavu, topped the Humanities stream. Nanda Vinod of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kannur, was the Science stream topper. Maehal Barthwal of Navy Children School, Naval Base, Kochi topped in Commerce. A. Vijay Ganesh of Palakkad Lions School topped the examination in the differently-abled category, securing 492 marks. CBSE Regional Officer Tarun Kumar said girls outdid boys securing a pass percentage of 98.05. The boys managed a pass percentage of 95.61. Nine of the top 10 ranks in the region were bagged by girls, he added. 38,934 appeared and 37,706 passed As many as 38,934 students had appeared for the class 12 examinations in the region, of whom 37,706 passed. In the General category, of the 37,624 students who appeared for the examination, 36,449 passed. Of these 18,648 were girls and 17,801 were boys. In the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe category, of the 1,310 students who sat for the examination, 1,257 — 643 girls and 614 boys — passed. The Chennai region was second with 93.87%, followed by Delhi at 89%.
