Decks cleared for the return of Kandararu Mohanaru

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Decks are being cleared for the reinstatement of Kandararu Mohanaru as Sabarimala thantri. Even the devaprasnam attributed the cause for the death of senior thantri Kandararu Maheswararu as his son Mohanaru's misfortunes. During the devaprasnam, Sarma asked the board authorities whether there was any difficulty in bringing him back to the temple to which the TDB president gave a positive reply. It asked to remove the roofing above the holy steps (pathinettam padi) for the Lord to get a clear view of Ponnambalamedu. The devaprasnam which concluded on Sunday also suggested solutions to some problems identified in the devaprasnam.

The three-day 'ashtamangala devaprasnam' led by astrologer Irinjalakuda Padmanabha Sarma has called for his reinstatement, which has been welcomed by Travancore devaswom board president A Padmakumar.Mohanaru was removed from performing the rites at the temple following a controversy after he was allegedly abducted, manhandled by a gang and photographed alongside a woman in 2006.However, in the devaprasnam it was found that the expulsion of a prominent priest from the temple still remains as a bad mark and hence it should be rectified. Even the devaprasnam attributed the cause for the death of senior thantri Kandararu Maheswararu as his son Mohanaru's misfortunes. Hence there was a need for the rectification for senior thantri's worries.Another priest from the family and former head priest of the temple Kandararu Rajeevaru, who was also present during the devaprasnam, said it was the wish of Kandararu Maheswararu to make Mohanaru as the chief priest and he was worried that he could not accomplish his dream.TDB president A Padmakumar said that the board has no objection in bringing back Mohanaru.
