Nine Indian films to be screened at IDSFFK

Nine Indian films will participate in the ‘Long Documentary’ competition category at the 11th International Documentary and Short Film Festival (IDSFFK), which will begin here on Friday. Twenty-one films including four Malayalam flicks will be presented in the ‘Short Documentary’ competition category. The section features films from six female directors and two of the nine films are ‘no-dialogues’ documentaries. The ‘Focus Long Documentary’ category screens seven Indian documentaries, including Our Gauri, which portrays the realities of the life of Gauri Lankesh, and 16 films feature under ‘Focus Short Documentary.’Six campus films have been selected from the campuses across Kerala for campus film competition category. The film Ida revolves around the daily life of a young girl and a surprise that awaits her.

Debalina Majumder’s Tin Satyi, Shilpi Gulati’s Taala Te Kunjee, Beeswaranjan Pradhan’s The Tribal Scoop, Surabhi Sharma’s Phir Se Samm Pe Aana, Piyush Shah’s The Third Infinity, Hemant Gaba’s An Engineered Dream, R.V.Ramani’s Santhal Family to Mill Re-call, S.D: Saroj Dutta and his Times by Kasturi Basu and Mitali Biswas, and Up, Down, & Sideways, are the entries to be screened at the fete. The section features films from six female directors and two of the nine films are ‘no-dialogues’ documentaries. The winning film will get an entry to compete for the Oscar awards. This assortment of films will discuss and explore myriad themes, such as lucid dreaming, mental dilemma, quest for freedom and nature of conflict experienced by people in various social ladders of the society. Bridge, directed Sreedev Suprakash, seeks to unravel the concept of lucid dreaming through a protagonist in his film, while Hegemony, by Vishnu Pradeep, discusses the dynamics of external political structures that try to suppress the natural quest for freedom. The film Ida revolves around the daily life of a young girl and a surprise that awaits her. Nayatt by Nikhil Sudarshanan captures the conflict in human lives and Niranjan C’s Pakal Kinavu carefully observes the life of a normal human being. Preparation, directed by G.Shankar, is the last film in the package. The best campus fiction will receive a cash award of ?50,000 and a certificate.
