Sources in the Viyyur jail said, the programme is modelled on a similar initiative which was launched in Telangana in 2016. The proposal worth Rs 6 crore is awaiting final clearance from the state. The idea of jail museum is being mooted to give a first-hand experience of how jail is not a pleasant place and crimes should be avoided at all costs. Citizens are being charged Rs 500 per head per night at the Sangareddy jail in Telangana, where a 220-year-old defunct prison was converted for the 'experience the jail' project. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala prisons and correctional services department have decided to emulate the Telangana model of jail tourism that will give the general public an experience of life in prisons.The programme, called 'experience the jail', is being planned inside Viyyur central prison compound in Thrissur , where a jail museum is in the making.
