But I am happy with the verdict,” said Narayanan, sitting at his house in Thiruvananthapuram soon after television channels flashed the verdict from New Delhi.Pinning the blame squarely on Sibi Mathew, the DIG of police who led the special investigation team, Narayanan said no police officer should go free after torturing a person like this mentally and physically. “It was Sibi Mathew who brought this case to this level,” Nambi Narayanan said, adding, “If it is a fabricated case, and you are implicated, then you should fight against it.”However, the police officers whose names were associated with the 24-year-old scandal now feel ‘victimised’. K K Joshua, who assisted Mathew as a deputy SP termed as ‘illogical’ SC’s decision to appoint the judicial committee. Mathew refused to comment.Joshua said SC has made harsh remarks against him over trivial matters. “My name was never part of the case until CBI filed a report before the state HC. The report was prepared by a low-ranking officer of the CBI with distorted facts,” he said. Vijayan, the special branch inspector who recorded the arrests of Maldivian nationals Mariyam Rashida and Fouziya, said he was a victim of a conspiracy. “I have said a thousand times that I did not arrest Nambi Narayanan. In fact, I never met him in person,” he said.He alleged that the case took a U-turn after CBI took over the case.
