KSRTC sacks 134 employees

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) has terminated 134 employees for unauthorized absence from service. It was only last week that a total of 773 KSRTC employees were sacked for unauthorized leave. "The situation is such that many who were absent from service on unauthorized leave submitted fake documents regarding medical treatment and received pension and other allowances. Employees who submit application for long leave to take up other jobs need to report for duty on the notice of the corporation.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) has terminated 134 employees for unauthorized absence from service. The order was issued by KSRTC chairman and managing director Tomin J Thachankary on Saturday.The list consists of 65 conductors and 69 drivers, who have applied for leave and have been absent from service since 2008. It was only last week that a total of 773 KSRTC employees were sacked for unauthorized leave."Most of these employees are working in the Middle East. Employees who submit application for long leave to take up other jobs need to report for duty on the notice of the corporation. Some of them have sought time to return to duty and it has been permitted. But, others who have not responded to the notice have been terminated from service," said Thachankary."The situation is such that many who were absent from service on unauthorized leave submitted fake documents regarding medical treatment and received pension and other allowances. It affects the seniority of the employees in service," he added.When large number of KSRTC employees are taking unauthorized leave but are still on the transport corporation rolls, the service operation is affected due to staff shortage.KSRTC aims to attain the national average staff ratio through the mass termination order. The average staff ratio of KSRTC is 8:7, while national average staff ratio is 5:5.
