Sabarimala protest: Ready to wait, until security issues are solved, say women

"We don't want to go to Sabarimala temple by creating violence or bloodshed over the issue. "It is the responsibility of the government to give protection to women who want to visit the temple," said Shanila. "Through the online booking portal I could book for the 'darshan' from 7am to 8am on Monday. But the visit was cancelled due to the threats I was continuously receiving, many even came in front of my house to attack me," Reshma said. Even the police had not replied to my request for protection, she added.Dhanya, a Kollam resident, said that she would only visit the temple when adequate security for women under the age of 50 years was provided there.

KOCHI: Three young, women who arrived in Kochi from different parts of Kerala by train to go to Sabarimala on Monday morning, dropped their plans in the backdrop of the violent developments at Sannidhanam.Reshma Nishanth, Shanila Sajeesh and Dhanya V S, who had openly declared that they will visit Sabarimala temple, said that they would continue the 'vratham' till the day they visit the temple.The trio told a news conference here that they did not want to climb the hills by causing disruptions and triggering violence."We don't want to go to Sabarimala temple by creating violence or bloodshed over the issue. We believe that the true devotees of Ayyappa will understand the situation," said Reshma.Reshma, who had to resign from the job because of the threat she was facing soon after announcing her readiness to visit Sabarimala, said that even though she had asked police protection and there was no response to that.
