T’puram: Nissan digital hub is all set for launch at Technopark Phase III campus in the capital.With a staff-strength of 350, Nissan digital, the first digital hub of the trans-national corporation, will be inaugurated by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 4pm on Monday, in the presence of Union minister of state Alphons Kannanthanam, Japanese ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu, Shashi Tharoor MP and Nissan chief information officer Tony Thomas.Mentioning the 24,000 sq.ft office space at the first floor of Yamuna building in Phase III campus of Technopark, which was readied within a short span of 60 days, Thomas said that the hub will not be like any other offshore digital centre.“This facility will hold more than half of my global team. They will deal with a wide range of works such as software development, development and maintenance of applications, cyber security, monitoring of all assets etc.” said Thomas.Nissan is planning to hire around 500 employees by the end of this financial year. It is also planning to move to the 33-acre campus in Technocity by the time it gets ready.Nissan has set up a cubicle-free informal workspace with an interactive environment. The 24,000 sq.ft space has been arranged to accommodate only 200 staff. There are facilities such as movable video conferencing systems to interact with colleagues in other centres such as Japan and Europe.Accepting that the company faced issues in hiring candidates from the state, Thomas said that academia must change according to the needs of the industry. “Technology is changing fast. We are still teaching the old syllabus. The students should understand and deal with genuine real world problems. We are not looking for academic qualifications, but quality to adapt to changes, eagerness for quick learning etc.” he said.
