Traffic chaos: Case against official

Hundreds of motorists proceeding from Venjaramoodu to Kilimanoor and Porunthamon to Thiruvananthapuram had a horrid time.For the past three days, KSTP workers were engaged in the construction of 100 m stretch between the bridge and Karette Junction. “The officials of KSTP neither informed us neither they showed the courtesy to inform the public which caused chaos. On Saturday morning they blocked one side of the road without informing the locals and police personnel, which resulted in a traffic block from 6am. “I was heading towards Kilimanoor from my ancestral home nearby Keezhaikonam around 6 30 am.

Attingal: Kilimanoor police have registered a case against a PWD engineer and a contractor after the traffic along the Vamanapuram - Venjaramoodu stretch of Main Central (MC) Road was disrupted for hours on Saturday following drainage construction work. Hundreds of motorists proceeding from Venjaramoodu to Kilimanoor and Porunthamon to Thiruvananthapuram had a horrid time.For the past three days, KSTP workers were engaged in the construction of 100 m stretch between the bridge and Karette Junction. On Saturday morning they blocked one side of the road without informing the locals and police personnel, which resulted in a traffic block from 6am. The construction was undergoing then. The authorities blocked the right side and were allowing only single- lane traffic. But that time there were only a few cars and motorist but there was not sufficient staff to regulate the traffic and they did not put any signboards,” he said. He had to spend nearly two hours to complete the journey which used to take only 20 minutes.Led by Attingal DSP, the CIs of Kilimanoor and Venjaramoodu police stations reached the spot and regulated traffic on the stretch. “The officials of KSTP neither informed us neither they showed the courtesy to inform the public which caused chaos. By 7.30 am the officials started regulating the traffic. But it took almost five hours for us to put things back in order,” said an officer of Kilimanoor police station.“We have registered a case under the sections 283 (causing obstructions in public way), 336 (negligent act endangering human life) and 120 (n) of KP act against both PWD engineer and contractor,” he added.
